Walter G. Hill, 63, of Dowagiac, died at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015.

Walt was born in Dowagiac to Earnest and Mae Belle (Cosey) Hill.

He attended Dowagiac Union High School and was employed for many years at Michigan Tool in Eau Claire and Superior Management in St. Joseph until his health failed.

Walt married Louella Hill and to that union was born one daughter, Shamay, and two stepdaughters, Val and Trolia. Walter has two other daughters, Terina and Rachelle. He later in life entered into a partnership with Marcel Lillie and was blessed with two stepdaughters, Angela and Tiffany, and one stepson, Jermaine.

He enjoyed watching television, especially westerns, and doing crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed cooking and grilling out with friends and family. Walter was the life of the party and had no problem pulling someone out on the dance floor when old Motown played. Walter also made it a point to take care of his loyal dog, Precious.

He is preceded in death by his father, Earnest Hill; a sister, Ora Lucas; and a brother, Anthony Scott Hill.

Walt is survived by his mother Mae Belle (Cosey) Hill, of Dowagiac; three daughters, Terina (Dionte) Calloway of Dowagiac, Shamay (Shawn) Johnson of South Bend, and Rachelle (Mike Babcock) Legatt of Niles, 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nine brothers, Ernest (Beverly) Hill of Dowagiac, Otis Hill of Edwardsburg, Carl Hill of Dowagiac, Robert Hill of Berrien Springs, Marvin (Carla) Hill of Mishawaka, Kenneth Hill of Dowagiac, Phillip Hill of New York, Cedrick Hill of South Bend and Timothy Hill of Dowagiac; a special niece, Tina Cosey; a God Son, Chris Cosey; and a host of nieces, nephews and countless other lives that were touched by Walt.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at noon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles, with Pastor Bryant L. Bacon, Sr., officiating. A time of visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac.
