Walter L. Kramer, 79, of Elkhart, died peacefully Tuesday, September 1, 2015, in the presence of his family.

He was born March 3, 1936, in Hillside, Illinois to Fredrick and Amelia (Wolff) Kramer.

He married Janice Marie Eash November 8, 1958, in Marshall, Michigan. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Martha Hoffman; and two brothers, Alfred Kramer and Kenneth Kramer.

Walt served in the Coast Guard Reserve and the U.S. Navy. He was a kind, supportive, and helpful man with a strong faith in God. He loved playing chess and cards, especially Bridge. Walt was a good father who loved his grandchildren dearly. He loved everything to do with Michigan State University sports and the Detroit Tiger

Walt will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Janice (Eash) Kramer of Elkhart; one daughter, Michele Watts of Elkhart, two sons, Mark (Laurie) Kramer of Granger, Indiana, Jon (Adrienne) Kramer of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Eric Kramer, Sarah Muday, David Kramer, Stephanie Wilson, Jacob (fiance’ Alexandria Sadowski) Kramer, Emily Kramer, Kalei Kramer, Elijah Kramer, Abigail Kramer and one more grandchild due on Thanksgiving day in November; two brothers, Fred (Carol) Kramer, Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada, Raymond (Patricia) Kramer of Marshall, Michigan; a host of nieces and nephews; and his dog, Muffy.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 305 West State Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverend Paul Doellinger officiating. Mr. Kramer’s remains will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan, when he will be accorded full Military Honors.
