Jo Ann Lang, 94, of Niles, Michigan died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 4, 2015, at Riveridge Manor in Niles while recovering from a fall.

She was born on July 7, 1921, in Anderson, Indiana, to Michael and Lillian (Pfeiffer) Miller. She graduated from high school in Anderson, and has lived in Niles since 1953, coming from Columbus, Indiana.

Jo Ann was devoted to her family. She was a long-time member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, and was a volunteer tutor with Niles Community Schools. She was a proficient artist, working first in oils, and later in watercolor. With her husband, she had traveled throughout much of the world including Europe, Japan, and South America. They enjoyed dancing, and were members of a dinner and dance club.

On April 26, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana she married Ernest U. Lang with whom she celebrated the remarkable 63rd anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on March 8, 2005. She was also preceded in death by their son, Eric M. Lang on Sept. 9, 2001 and their daughter, Carole J. Maddox on May 8, 2008; and by Jo Ann’s brother, Bud Miller.

Surviving family includes a son, Douglas V. Lang of Niles; son-in-law, Tom Maddox; grandchildren Lynne (Douglas) Crawford, Jeffrie Maddox, Arnold Maddox, and Erica Oliver; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin, Mari, Jacob, and Gabriel.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Jo Ann Lang will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Alphonse Savarimuthu, MSFS. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Jo Ann may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Church.
