Emma Amina B. Al-Amouri, 15, of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest on May 17, 2015, as the result of a sudden natural death.

Emma was born March 21, 2000, in South Bend, the daughter of “Jacki“ Jacqueline L. Coots and Mahmoud Al-Amouri and she has lived here all of her life.

Emma was a freshman at Edwardsburg High School and a mentor in the Intermediate School for students. She was a member of EHS Choir and a member of the SADD Program. She also did volunteer work for the Cass County Animal Shelter, Cassopolis.

Surviving Emma is her mother, Jacki Coots of Edwardsburg, her father Mahmoud Al-Amouri of South Bend, her step-father, Kevin Connors of Edwardsburg, her sister Amel Amouri of South Bend and her brothers, Wade Brugh and Zackary Connors, both of Edwardsburg and Abed Amouri of South Bend. She has maternal grandparents, Rob and Cheri Snider of Niles and a maternal great-grandmother, Carol Underwood of Ocala, Florida.

There were two services in her memory. On Saturday, May 23, 2015, a service began at 9 a.m. at the Islamic Society of Michiana located at 3310 E. Hepler St. South Bend.

A second visitation with a gathering of family and friends began at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Road, Edwardsburg. At 3 p.m., Saturday, there was a Service of Remembrance at Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of the church officiating. Following the service, interment was in the Edwardsburg Cemetery.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations are to be directed to the “Emma Al-Amouri Memorial Fund” to help defray funeral expenses and to establish a scholarship at the Edwardsburg High School, in Emma’s name. The memorial fund has been set up at the Chemical Bank, (Edwardsburg Branch) P.O. Box 716 Edwardsburg, MI 49112.
