VANDALIA, MI — John Fred Baker Jr., 84, passed away Monday April 20, 2015, doing what he loved, working on his tractor.

Fred was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Niles, as the son of Fred & Enga Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Huttenstein.

Leaving behind: his loving wife, Alice, of 59 years, his four children, John (Kim) Baker of Cassopolis, MI, Sue (Wes) Johnson of Elkhart, Mark (Patty) Baker of Niles and Angie (Tom) Littman of Edwardsburg, MI, his two adored grandchildren Mark Baker of Kalamazoo, MI and Chloe Baker of Niles, his sisters, Ida (Dale) Burdide of North Carolina, Pat Deeds of Niles, MI, numerous nieces and nephews and his two cats, Daisy and Sunny.

Fred enjoyed working on anything from a lawn mower to a caterpillar. He enjoyed spending time in the UP of Michigan at his cabin in Paradise Michigan with family and friends. He loved feeding his birds and squirrels. Fred was quite the story teller and jokester; he would always have everyone laughing at his jokes.

He was a Navy veteran serving four years. After the Navy he moved to Cassopolis to open his gas station where he worked until he got a job at the U.S.P.S in Cassopolis for 20 years, retiring as a post master. After retiring he worked for Pike Lumber. He was also on the board of reviews for Lagrange Twp. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
