Doris Virginia (Harroun) Brannock, age 97, of Edwardsburg, died peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in Emeritus at Arbor Wood in Granger, Indiana.

She was born September 5, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan to Edward and Florence (Bourquin) Harroun. She was united in marriage to S. Lee Brannock of Benton Harbor, Michigan August 28, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband; and one sister, Jean Moffat.

Doris taught elementary education in Lake Odessa, Michigan. She lived for a time in Traverse City, Michigan before moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1948. Doris was active in the Parchment United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, and helped to establish the Parchment Public Library. Doris moved to Houston, Texas and retired after ten years of service for the Houston Public Library. She moved to Edwardsburg, Michigan in September 2003. Doris was an avid reader, gardener, and dog lover. She enjoyed traveling. She spent winters in Florida. Her favorite place to visit was Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Doris will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Keith) Knapp of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, Barbara (David) Steensma of Edwardsburg, Michigan; two grandsons, Aaron (Lesley) Steensma of Cassopolis, Michigan and Nathan (Julie) Steensma of Goshen, Indiana; and four great grandchildren, Caleb Steensma, Caitlyn Steensma, Kendrick Steensma and Allison Steensma.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon in United Presbyterian Church, 209 East State Street (M 60), Cassopolis, with the Reverend Stephen Kaszar officiating.

The family prefers memorial contributions in Doris’ name be made to either the Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M 62 North, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031, or, Grace Hospice, 5838 West Brick Road, Suite 101, South Bend, Indiana 46628-8420.
