Aug. 7, 1962 — April 8, 2015

Warren Earl Smith, Sr. was born a wonderful gift to Clara Robinson and Dalton Smith on Aug. 7, 1962, in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Raised in southwestern Michigan, he graduated from Benton Harbor High School and later enlisted in the U. S. Army.

Upon discharge from the Army, Warren was employed by Superior Steel where he worked for more than 10 years. Later, he worked in general carpentry for the construction of homes.

He met and married Tameka Moore. Warren and Tameka were gifted with a son, Warren E. Smith, Jr. The family moved to Niles approximately nine years ago and became members of New Beginnings Training and Outreach Ministries where his church family fondly remembers him for his rejoice of “Come on Jesus!”

Warren was actively involved in the church where he functioned as an usher, worked in the Hospitality Ministry, and tried his hand in the Sound Ministry (but that didn’t quite work out).

Warren is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife and son, Tameka and Warren, Jr.; a brother, Ulice Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana; four sisters, Brenda Johnson of Kathleen, Georgia, Yolanda (Robert) Williams of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Lynn Smith of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Darlene Smith of Holland MI; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will begin at noon at Hope Community Church located at 2390 Lake Street in Niles. Viewing will be one hour prior from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be at Ft. Custer Veterans Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan. Online condolences may be made at www.hovenfunerals.com.
