Vote ‘no’ to Proposal 1

Published 8:00 am Thursday, April 16, 2015

In the short amount of time that I have been able to stand researching, here is the best summary of the numbers associated with that great big stinking pile of crap which is also known as Proposal 1:

Perhaps the greatest misdirection about Proposal 1 is that purported funding for road repairs will actually come from a well-disguised large increase in state gasoline taxes, which in addition to existing taxes would lead to a massive state gasoline tax.

Much of the sales tax increase would not go to repair roads, but would apparently go to maintain the School Aid Fund, which is on life support following Governor Snyder’s destruction of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System for young teachers and huge tax cuts for businesses several years ago.

I could summarize the extraordinarily devious and dastardly effect of the selective auto registration fee increases on people like me who drive old beaters, but then I would lose my sense of humor.  The proposed auto registration fee increases would not affect old guys like me, but it is an impressive example of Big Money Republican “Divide and Conquer” since it would be my generation’s legacy to younger people starting in about ten years.

On Tuesday, May 5 take twenty valuable minutes and vote “no” on proposal 1.
