Thanking Upton for leadership

On behalf of more than 4,000 Borgess Health associates and providers serving southwest Michigan, we express a heartfelt thank you to Rep. Fred Upton for supporting those we serve by crafting the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. Chairman Fred Upton worked hard to co-sponsor this legislation as it moved through the U.S. House of Representatives.

On March 26, the House passed bipartisan legislation H.R. 2 to permanently replace the Medicare physician sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula — a landmark achievement. This piece of legislation promises to help accelerate health care transformation while protecting those who need it most. On April 14, the Senate approved the measure.

The legislation will improve the health of our communities and accelerate the health system transformation needed to achieve the triple aim of improving quality, lowering health care costs, and improving health. It will also provide needed support to poor and vulnerable persons at a time of tremendous change.

Borgess Health, a member of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health system, is a mission-driven organization committed to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable.

For those we serve, we again thank Rep. Upton for his leadership.
