DePaul rallies to beat Minnesota 79-72

NOTRE DAME — DePaul allowed from an 11-point first half deficit to defeat Minnesota 79-72 in the first game of an NCAA Women’s Tournament doubleheader at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center at Notre Dame Friday night.

Minnesota (23-10) lead 41-30 at halftime, but was outscored 49-31 in the final 20 minutes by DePaul (27-7).

The Golden Gophers shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52) compared to 40 percent (29-of-72) by the Blue Devils, but committed 28 turnovers.

DePaul used those turnovers to score 25 points.

Megan Podkowa led the Blue Devils with 23 points and five rebounds, while Chanise Jenkins added 16 points and seven rebounds. Brittany Hrynko finished with 10 points, six assists and four steals.

Amanda Zahui scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a game-high 22 rebounds to pace the Golden Gophers, who also got 17 points and eight rebounds from Shae Kelley and 14 points and eight rebounds from Carlie Wagner.
