Betty Ann Griffis, 85, of Niles passed away at her home on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, with her daughter by her side.

Betty was born on April 6, 1929, to Charles and Myrtle (Masse) Nitti. Shortly after birth she was adopted by the Peterson family. She graduated from Dowagiac High School and on Oct. 25, 1952, she wed Earl Griffis at a ceremony in Dowagiac. She later retired from Simplicity Pattern Company.

Betty was precede in death by her parents and one grandson. She is survived by her son, Lawrence (Joann) Hilliker of Niles; daughter, Linda Lewis of Niles; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Isabelle Nitti and brother, Walter “Wally” Peterson of Sister Lakes.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at First Church of Christ Christian at 2 p.m., visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. with a private burial at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Niles.
