Peggy Szymonski, 91, of Dowagiac died peacefully at her home on Feb. 24, 2015

Peggy was born on Feb. 2, 1924, to the late Jerry and Olive (Johnston) Mosier in Dowagiac. She wed Steve J. Szymonski on Jan. 29, 1944, at a ceremony in Buchanan, Michigan. Together they had five children.

Peggy worked at Woolworth’s and the Fair Store for many years, Opal’s Food Mart for 13 years and sold Avon for more than 26 years; however her favorite job was taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was always a busy woman and could be found going to and having yard sales, fishing, playing Yahtzee, cooking and baking (especially her famous cheesecake). She played cards her entire life and loved challenging her family to the game.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Steve; son, Dell Szymonski; brothers, Gerald, Don and Jerry Mosier and Jim Servis; and two sisters, Isabella White and Jane Callahan.

Peggy is survived by her children Stephen “Bob” (Susan) Szymonski, Michael (Judy) Szymonski, Pam Krizinski and Julie (Ken) Dewey, all of Dowagiac; sister Eva Yochim; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2 p.m.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Peggy’s name may do so to her family or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
