Alice Jane Yaw, better known as Jane Yaw, 90 years old, of Niles and formerly of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest on Jan. 28, 2015 at Riveridge Manor of Niles after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born Oct. 13, 1924 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Harold E. Lee, Sr. and Gladys Rowena (Keely) Lee, and has lived in the Michiana area most of her life.

Jane graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1942 and was a cheerleader. She was employeed in the Niles Public Schools System for over 25 years, serving at Central High, Eastside, Ballard, Northside, Westside and Howard School, in Special Education and Basic Adult Education. She was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion Auxiliary and the Adult Literacy Council of Niles. Jane had a passion for music and dancing. Her greatest pleasure was being with her children and her grandchildren, and being there for every aspect of their lives. She was a kind and generous person, very artistic and a wonderful seamstress.

Jane was married to Robert Yaw and they divorced. She is survived by her friend and companion , Bill Ostrowski of Niles and her children; Nancy Joanne (Jerry) Wright of Edwardsburg, Wendy Lee (Marcello) de la Serna of Norcross, GA, N. Jeanne (Mike) Price, Janie Linn (Dale) Townsend of Niles, Joni Kay (Robbie) Young of Niles, and Gary Yaw. She was an “adoptive mother” to Vani (Michele) Bell of Georgia as well as many others. re 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Also a sister Nancy Davis of Elkhart.

Family who have passed, are her parents, her former husband, her grand-daughter, Shannon Young, her sisters; Jeanne Markin, Lynn J. Lee, Mary Lou Howe, and her brother Harold E. “Butch” Lee, Jr.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service of Remembrance on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 5 p.m. at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St., Edwardsburg. Friends and family may gather for one hour before the service. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor of Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at a later date in Edwardsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085, or to Alzheimer’s Research to further their cause.
