Feb. 16, 1927 — Dec. 29, 2014

Huston O. Mitchell, age 87 of South Bend, Indiana, formerly of Niles died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Greenfield, Tennessee to Lee Andrew and Adelle (Parham) Mitchell.

Huston retired from Bendix Corporation, South Bend in 1984, working more than 34 years for the company. He was a member of the First Missionary Church in Niles and member of the UAW Local #9 of South Bend.

On Aug. 12, 1945 in Corinth, Mississippi, Huston married the former Mary Irene Rachels, who preceded him in death on April 9, 1985. He later married Carolyn (Singleton) Figg in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7, 1994. She survives as well as Huston’s children, Charles David Mitchell of DeWitt, Michigan and Barbara Joyce Motuelle of Niles; stepchildren, Suzanne Figg of South Bend, Jeff (& Laura) Figg of North Liberty, Indiana, Dennis (& Diane) Figg of Scottdale, Pennsylvania, Claudia (& Joe) Ambroziak of Port Orange, Florida and Gayle Liggett of Dayton, Tennessee. Huston is also survived by five grandchildren, Tammi (& Chad) Meister of Granger, Indiana, Todd (& Cindy) Motuelle of Niles, Ben (& Tami) Mitchell of Syracuse, Utah, Jeff Mitchell of Midland, Michigan, Aaron (& Sara) Greer of Lansing, Michigan; five step-grandchildren, Caitlin and Kirsty Figg of Scottdale, PA, Ashlea L. Kelley of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Nathan (& Samantha) Ambroziak of Daytona, Florida, Patrick (& Sara) Kaizer of Lake Mary, Florida; and great-grandchildren, Trinity, Evan, Carter, Dylan, Misty, Crystal, Chase, Ryan (& Noel), Ashley (& Jason), Sebastian, Juniper, Emma, Justin and Josh; great-great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kaleigh and Abby; and Huston’s siblings, L.C. Mitchell of Springville, Tennessee and Gloria Faye Lowery Bradford, Tennessee.

Huston was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Mitchell and Jimmie Mitchell and one sister, Edith Jean Cartrell.

Funeral services for Huston O. Mitchell will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with Pastor Steve Van Houten of Pine Creek Church of the Brethren officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home beginning at Noon until time of services.
