John Peter French, 95, of Niles, Michigan died on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles. He was born Aug. 16, 1919 in Chicago, Illinos to Peter and Catherine (Fassino) Krevesic. Following the death of his father at a young age, John was raised by Samuel and his mother Catherine French.

John was a World War II Veteran, serving in the 9th Armored Division in the United States Army. John worked as an expeditor for the Simplicity Pattern Company in Niles, retiring after more than 35 years of service. He had an impeccable memory, often studying and discussing war history, geography and the weather. John enjoyed bird watching, fishing and any time spent in nature. He was also an avid bowler; he continued bowling until his early 90’s in spite of his failing vision.

John is survived by a brother, William (Peggy) French of Niles; a sister-in-law, Barbara French of Niles and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry French and one sister, Marie Tolliver.

The Catholic Funeral Liturgy for John Peter French will be read at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles by Deacon Roger Gregorski of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Niles with military honors.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
