Burton Bakeman, 90, of South Bend, passed away at the Center for Hospice in South Bend on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Burt was born on Nov. 16, 1923, to the late Kenneth and Gladys (Booth) Bakeman in Dowagiac, Michigan.

In 1944 Burt enlisted in the Army Corp of Engineers and served for three years before his honorable discharge. While overseas he met Anna May Dickhart and the two wed in Dowagiac on Dec. 7, 1947. He was then called back to serve in the Army in 1950 to help stateside during the Korean War.

Burton is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Gladys; former wife Anna May Bakeman and identical twin brother Bernard Bakeman.

He is survived by his son, David (Sherri Zablocki) Bakeman of Dowagiac; grandchildren James Bakeman of Denver, Colorado and Steven Bakeman of Dowagiac; and great-grandchildren Hanah and Chase Bakeman of Dowagiac.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 6 until p.m. with funeral services to follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow on Friday at 10 a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
