Jack C. Butler, 86, of Niles, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his home unexpectedly, but of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Gary and Lucille (Kelsey) Butler.

Jack was a veteran United States Navy and enjoyed working a few years with the railroad when his children were younger. He worked many years for Clark Equipment in Buchanan, retiring in 1984.

Jack enjoyed vegetable gardening, working on and repairing tractors and machines and completing Sudoku puzzles.

On April 5, 1947, in Saint Joseph, Michigan, Jack married the former Margaret Rogers. She survives with their three daughters, Linda Butler, Cindy (Don) Nimtz and Becky (Mark) Stoops, all of Niles; two sons, Max (Janet) Butler of Glendale, Arizona and Gary M. (Lisa) Butler of Niles. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tim, Amy, Jenelle, Sarah, Courtney, Gary, Greg and Nichole; step-grandchildren Leslie, Crystal, Brad and Amanda; 12 great-grandchildren and Jack’s sister, Mary Hendrix of Watervliet, Michigan.

Jack was preceded in death by two grandchildren and four brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Jack C. Butler will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church in Niles with Dr. Anthony Tomasino of Grace Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sumnerville Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, and one hour before services on Wednesday, all at the church.
