Valerie Sharon Johnson, 63, of Cassopolis, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, in her residence.

Valerie was born Aug. 25, 1950 in Wyandotte, Mich., to Glen and Patricia (Wiggins) Hedrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Ronald Jones.

Valerie will be remembered for her generosity to her church and her family. She was very involved in her faith and Christian charities. She was proud of her work in public service with the State of Michigan.

Valerie will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Nicole (Daniel Shick) Johnson of Oakland, Calif.; two sons, David Jones of Peoria, Ill., and James Johnson of Detroit; one step-son, Kyle (Susan) Johnson of Newark, N.J.; one granddaughter, Zoe Jones; four step-grandchildren, Spencer Johnson, Ross Johnson, Darcy Johnson and Marshall Johnson; sisters, Midge (Jack) Henderson of Schoolcraft, Candy (Mike) Giovanni of Williamston, Terry (Tom) Dodge of Ada, Ruth Ann (Dale) Gillson of Sheridan; brothers, Mike Hedrick of Stockbridge, Glen “Skip” (Tamara) Hedrick of Lansing, Art Hedrick of Rockford, Phillip “P.J.” (Julie) Hedrick of Dansville, Chris (Jessica) Hedrick of Jackson, and Gary (Jody) Wiggins of Hastings.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, April 17, from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.

Johnson will be laid to rest beside her late husband, James Spenser Johnson on Friday, April 18 at 10 a.m. in Bedford Cemetery, Bedford, Mich.
