Bohumir “Peter” Sallak, 80, of Niles passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning October 22, 2013 at his home.

Pete was born June 29, 1933 to Joseph and Emilia (Izo) Sallak in Niles, MI. Pete was a master auto mechanic and was a fixture at the corner of 5th and Main in Niles for over 40 years. He was always available to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Pete enjoyed delivering cars for the C. Wimberley dealerships after his retirement. His passions included his family, gospel bluegrass music, fishing, working in the garage, and his group of supportive friends.

Pete married Kathleen M. Lierley on August 15, 1952. She survives along with four children; Brenda (Robert) Holmes of Niles, Melody (Dan) Sallak of Texas, Rex (Kelly) Sallak of Niles, and Jeffery Sallak of Niles, along with a grandson they raised as their own Peter (Kelly) Shrider, Grandchildren; Brittanie (Brian) Nelson, Robert (Missy) Holmes, Clint Holmes, Wyatt Holmes, Warren Loignon, Whitney Loignon, Christopher Sallak, Jennifer (Nick) Bockaj, Sonya Sallak and Jesse (Jamie) Sallak, 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister Eleanor Brown.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Emilia Sallak, his brothers; Joseph, Albert, Frank, and Andrew Sallak, sisters; Irene Juriss, Anna Sallak, Helen Sallak, Bernice Grocke and Patricia Peck, his beautiful daughter; Kay Lynn Ryor, and little grandson Jamen Ryor.

A funeral service to honor Pete’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 26, 2013 at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan with Pastor Mike Cramer of New Life Church in Osceola, IN officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
