KALAMAZOO — Western Michigan football will travel to Ohio State on Sept. 26, 2015 to take on the Buckeyes for the first time in program history.

“Ohio State is one of the most storied programs in all of college football. The tradition that is associated with the Buckeyes is unmistakeable and we are excited for our student-athletes to experience that on Sept. 26, 2015,” commented WMU head football coach P.J. Fleck.

“Having started my career at OSU, I have so much respect for that program. It is an amazing opportunity for our student-athletes, our fans and our University.”

This game will be one of two guarantee games against Big Ten opponents in 2015 but both will not take place on the road. As previously announced WMU will host Michigan State at Waldo Stadium to open the campaign. The home tilt against the Spartans is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 4, 2015.

“We look forward to this game in 2015 and playing The Ohio State University for the first time in program history. Securing games such as this puts Western Michigan in position to work with two guarantee games in the future, which aligns us closer with the Mid-American Conference strategic plan,” commented WMU Director of Athletics Kathy Beauregard. “I want to thank OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith for committing to this game. I have so much respect for him and have followed his career since it began at Eastern Michigan University.”

Prior to the signing of this contract, Ohio State and Penn State were the only two current Big Ten teams the Broncos had never faced in football.

WMU’s 2014 non-conference schedule consists of Purdue (Aug. 30), Idaho (Sept. 13) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 27) on the road and Murray State (Sept. 20) at home.  Outside of the MSU and OSU games, the remainder of the 2015 non-conference schedule is yet to be determined.
