Sylvia (Sue) Ann Grissom, 71

Sylvia (Sue) Ann Grissom 71, a lifelong Decatur resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

Sue was born on March 2,1942, in Decatur, the daughter of Carl and Ethel (Osborn) Spicher. On Feb. 27, 1960, she married Daniel Huey Grissom of Hillsboro, Ala., in Cass County.

She spent many years working at Contech before she retired in the early ’90s. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. Her passion for tracing her ancestry roots lead her to a Pioneer award in Van Buren County.

During her ancestry search she discovered and was provided a certificate showing her to be a member of the House of Windsor in England. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Sylvia is survived by: her children Rosetta Soti (Ricky Kirby), Robin Grissom (Harold Parish), Daniel Grissom and Gary (Teresa) Grissom, all of Decatur; four siblings, Margaret (Aubrey) West of Decatur, Linda Smith of Cassopolis, Cedric (Linda) Spicher of Decatur and her twin brother, Lonnie (Joyce) Spicher of Decatur; six grandchildren, Damon Soti, Amanda Soti, Brandon Grissom, Shellean Grissom, Karen Grissom and Gabby Heath-Grissom; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her lifelong partner, Daniel Grissom; her parents, Carl and Ethel (Osborn) Spicher; sister, Helen Mattauch; and two brothers, Carl (Boyd) Spicher and Gerald (Barney) Spicher; and her great-granddaughter, Kaytlin King.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Wednesday, July 24, at the First Reformed Church, 319 W. Delaware St., Decatur, with Pastor Mark Hofstra officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Grissom family in the care of Rosetta Soti.
