Dave Carlock’s Best Bets: July 19-25

Published 2:55 pm Thursday, July 18, 2013

Friday, July 19
Whitesnake
8 p.m.
Star Plaza Theatre
8001 Deleware Pl., Merrillville, Ind.
(800) 745-3000
Every day that I woke up at 6 a.m. during my freshman year at Western Michigan University, it was to the synth sounds of “Here I Go Again” on my clock radio. David Coverdale was a great Robert Plant knockoff but with an even better voice. It’s reported that Tommy Aldrich is again drumming with the band as of this year.

Sunday, July 21
The Buckinghams
7 p.m.
Acorn Theater
107 Generations Drive, Three Oaks
(269) 756-3879
“Kind Of A Drag” was a great No. 1 hit for the Chicago-based band that
launched the group’s career in 1967. Still regional legends, it should be a great show for Boomers, featuring my buddy, Dave Zane, on guitar.

Monday, July 22
Introduction to Vegan Raw Foods with Chef Adam Graham
7 p.m.
Bubba’s New Buffalo Bakery
310 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo
(269) 469-2247
OK — this sounds like a great event but the venue is riddled with massive identity problems. The event was advertised at the “New Buffalo Bakery,” but a Google map search for the address pulls up a “Bubba’s Bakery.” A search for “Bubba’s Bakery” in Google finds “Bubba’s New Buffalo Bakery” and the photos in two different Facebook pages listed under “Bubba’s New Buffalo Sub Shoppe & Bakery” show a photo of a sign that says “Bubba’s New Jersey Subs & Bake Shoppe.” Wow. So if they’re publicizing this current event at “New Buffalo Bakery,” my biggest question is: WHAT’D THEY DO TO BUBBA???

Wednesday, July 24
National Lampoon’s ‘Animal House’
2 p.m.
Cinemark Movies 14 — Mishawaka
910 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, Ind.
(800) 326-3264
“Animal House” on the bigscreen. Watch for singer/songwriter Stephen Bishop’s cameo as the guitar-playing romantic who gets his guitar smashed by John Belushi on the stairs. Could toga parties make a come back?

Thursday, July 25
Tesla
8 p.m.
Club Fever
222 S. Michigan St.,
South Bend, Ind.
(574) 234-5200
My friend, Kari, must be all-a-tremble inside as the days count down — “Love Song” is her favorite song in the world. I predict she’ll be dragging a bunch of friends to this one and singing loudly, so South Bend, you’ve been warned!
