Fred B. Curry Jr., 78, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Monday evening, June 3, 2013, in The Timbers of Dowagiac in the presence of his family.

Fred was born April 23, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois.  He married Frieda Rose Jones.  She preceded him in death in 1998.  He was also preceded by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Frances Bialas, Norma Washington; one brother, James Payne; and one stepson, Dale Harris.

Fred served in the U.S. Air Force.  He retired from the Postal Service.  He helped in the development of the Cassopolis community for more than 40 years and served in various capacities, including sitting on the village council.

Fred was very creative as a novice writer, a painter and an inventor and was the holder of several patents.  Fred was a man of great determination and strong will.  He was a fighter his whole life.  His family describes him as the “handsomest cowboy ever.”

Fred will be greatly missed by family and friends.  He is survived by one son, Michael Curry, of Dowagiac; two grandsons, Lawrence Curry of Chicago, Sean Harris of Elkhart; one granddaughter, Stacy (Nagomba) White, of South Bend; and one sister, Martha (A.J.) Stovall of Holly Springs, Miss.; two local nephews, Norman Pompey, of Mishawaka, Tony Pompey, of Cassopolis; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, in Riverside Cemetery,

Dowagiac for a graveside service, where Mr. Curry’s remains will be laid to rest with his family.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Fred B. Curry Memorial Fund, in care of A.J. and Martha Stovall special account, Bank of America, 1903 South 11 49120.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
