Ruscella “Rusty” Schraw Carter, 72, of Birch Street, Niles, died on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Hospice House in South Bend. She was born July 21, 1940, in Elkhart, Ind., to Russell H. and Cora Bell (Chaffee) Gay.

She worked many years in the medical records department and other positions for Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Surviving family includes children, Gail Schraw and Gaynelle Byride, both of South Bend, Krystal (David) Seweeny, of Jackson, Michael Schraw and Donald Schraw, both of South Bend, Cassandra Carter, of Niles, Allesha Carter, of Louisville, Ky., James Carter of South Bend, Jamar Carter, Cynthia Carter, Sabrina Carter and Matthew Carter, all of Niles, Danny (Marquette) Washington, of South Bend, Earl Carter Jr., of California, Earleen Carter, Tina Carter, both of South Bend, and Evon Carter of Savannah, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ruscella “Rusty” Schraw Carter will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at First Missionary Church in Niles with the Rev. Mark Slabaugh, of the church, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.

The family will receive relatives and friends from noon until the time of services Monday at the church.
