BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — The Aquinas College softball team took a weekend trip to Illinois to face some stiff competition, and found themselves more than up for the task.

After splitting a pair of games against Robert Morris, the Saints took on and took out No. 8 Olivet Nazarene, sweeping the Tigers to pull the upset.

The Saints fell behind early in game one, but a four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference. A two run single by Renae Tubergen (Ionia) tied the game at three. Torie Lowe (Dowagiac) drove in Tubergen with a RBI double to claim a 4-3 lead. Freshman pitcher Caitlyn Hensel (Flint/Flushing) limited the Tigers to just one hit over the final four innings to close the door, improving her season record to 3-1.

Game two was the Tubergen show. The senior outfielder was 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Tubergen hit a two-run blast in the first to start the offense, and a three-run bomb in the seventh to break open a 4-4 tie. Freshman Olivia Hrymak (Shelby Township/Eisenhower) had her second two-hit game of the series, collecting a pair of doubles and a run batted in.

The Saints (12-9) opened WHAC play Wednesday when they visit Davenport (17-8-1).
