Bessie Nell (Enders) Armstrong, 80

Born: Feb. 24, 1933

Died: March 1, 2013

Bessie’s life began on Feb. 24, 1933, in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Ernest and Beverly (Kaiser) Enders.

She was united in marriage to Day Ernest Armstrong in August of 1950. Her husband preceded her in death in 2009.

Bessie worked as a clerk at the Sears store in Dowagiac and the Buy-Low supermarket. She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth Court 11 in South Bend, the Red Hat Society and Reigns of Life in South Bend.

She enjoyed horses, ducks, pigs, dogs and all of God’s creatures.  She loved taking pictures of sunsets, swimming, playing one-eyed Jacks, making silver dollar pancakes with chocolate chips, playing bingo, baking and garage sales.

She is survived by her children Becky (Joy Oisten) Armstrong of Sister Lakes, Day (Jo) Armstrong of Niles and Kevin (Irene) Armstrong of Middlebury, Ind.; grandchildren, Peter, Kevin, Alex, Danielle and Shane Armstrong; great-grandchildren, Aliza, Jordon and Connor; brothers, John Kaiser of New York, Ben Enders of South Bend and sister Ernestine (John) Holmes of Niles.

Bessie passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be on Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel led by Pastor Jim Tippin. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, at a later date.

In lieu of memorials or flowers, please bring a bag of dog food or cat food to the memorial service to be given to the Cass County Animal Shelter in her memory.
