Newman named Crossroads League All-Freshman

Former Brandywine standout Carlie Newman was named to the Crossroads League All-Freshmen Team, which was announced recently.

Newman started 28 of 30 games for Spring Arbor, averaging 31.7 minutes per game. She scored 351 points for an average of 11.70 points per game.

Newman 34.7 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. She was 90-of-131 at the free throw line (68.7 percent).

Newman led the Cougars in scoring, rebounds (6.0), assists (2.37) and steals (2.0) as they fished the season with a record of 10-20, the most wins since the 2008-09 season. Spring Arbor was 4-14 in the Crossroads League.

Also named to the all-freshmen team were Lakan Hasser-Smith (Marian), Amelia Recker (Huntington), Brooke Ridley (Saint Francis) and Jo’Mani Thomas (Goshen).

“Carlie had an outstanding freshman season,” Spring Arbor coach Ryan Frost said. “She was a big contributor to the progress we were able to make this season. She worked hard and is very deserving of this honor.”
