Virginia Bacon Pardee, 90

ELKHART — Virginia Jane (Bacon) Pardee, 90, of Elkhart, Ind., passed to her rest Feb. 17, 2013 at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1922 in Edwardsburg, the daughter of David Cyrus and Henrietta (Bausman) Bacon, on the family farm. She grew up in the Edwardsburg area and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in home economics. She taught this subject and was also a consumers home service agent.

Virginia’s life took her from Edwardsburg, to Kalamazoo, to Owosso, Mich., before moving to the Little Rock, Ark. area. In her retirement, she and her husband moved to Elkhart to be near their daughter Prudence and family.

Virginia was married July 20, 1957 at the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Franklin Ogle to her husband, Theodore Charles Pardee. He passed June 23, 1991. She is survived by her daughter, ‘Prudy’ and Dennis Holzhausen of Elkhart, and two grandchildren, Amy Holzhausen of Austin, Texas and Alyse Vordermark of Sherwood, Ore., as well as two great-grandchildren Emerson and Ava Vordermark of Sherwood. There is a sister surviving, Bernice Olthuis of Wyomissing, Pa. Family who have passed are her parents, her husband Ted, and a sister Eleanor Edmondson.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, Feb. 23, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, where all may gather from 12:30 to 1 p.m., for the 1 p.m. graveside service.

Virginia was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Owosso and St. John’s United Church of Christ in Elkhart. Memorial donations in her honor may be directed to the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 4, Edwardsburg, MI  49112-0004.
