Olive Jean LaPorte, 88, of Cassopolis, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in her residence.
She was born April 14, 1924, in Hagar Township to Patrick and Olive (Caldwell) Murphy.

She married James Leo LaPorte Sept. 21, 1944, in St. Joseph. Her husband preceded her in death March 17, 1990. She was also preceded by one sister, Dora Peterson, and her twin brother, John Murphy.
Jean worked alongside her husband on their family farm. She loved her garden and her yard and her flowers. Every Thursday was lawn mowing day. All her sons attest that she was an excellent cook.
Jean will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by: four sons, Pat
(Jan) LaPorte of Cassopolis, Ben (Cheryl) LaPorte of Niles, Kenny LaPorte of
Cassopolis and Robert (Connie) LaPorte of Cassopolis; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Larry Settle officiating.
Mrs. LaPorte will be laid to rest beside her late husband in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.
Her family prefers memorial contributions to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
