Sandra C. Reist, 53, of Dowagiac, passed away at her home Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Sandra’s life began Jan. 1, 1959, in Benton Harbor, the daughter of Alvin and Maggie (Burns) Vales. She was united in marriage to Duane Reist, who survives in Dowagiac.

Sandra worked as a bartender at the Dowagiac Eagles Aerie 2441. She was a member of the Dowagiac Eagles and the VFW Auxiliary in Dowagiac. She loved her family very much and loved to take care of her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband, Duane Reist of Dowagiac; children, Chad (Tiffany) Raab of Dowagiac, Sandra Raab of Niles; stepchildren, Robert Fricke of Vandalia, Robin Fricke of Irving, Texas, and Ryan Reist of Bonnieview, Ky.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Jackie Goodwin of St. Joseph, David Vales of Elkhart, Kenny Vales of Coloma and Alvin Vales of Bardstown, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepdaughter, Diane Fricke; brothers, Donald and Lester Vales; and sister, Lillian Smith.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Dowagiac Eagles Aerie.
