Bonita “Bonnie” Kathleen Valdes, 87, of Dowagiac, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Timbers of Cass County.

Bonnie’s life began on Aug. 16, 1925, in Mishawaka, Ind., the daughter of Oscar and Blanche (Dudley) Sampson. She was united in marriage to George Valdes on Jan. 1, 1942, in Paw Paw.

Bonnie was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Dowagiac since 1948. She worked for Dr. Neff for 12 years, was the treasurer for AARP #444, volunteered during elections at the polls and a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Her loving family includes her children: John (Phyllis) Valdes, of Dowagiac, Phillip Valdes, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Jean Valdes, of Dowagiac, and Martha (Ted) Wallace, of Dowagiac; grandchildren Kevin (Kathy) Valdes, Amy (Matthew) Schmidt, Sandy (Nick Byrne) Garland, Jenny (Tyson Stewart) Garland, Kelly (Jake Egeler) Garland; great-grandchildren Ethan, Taylor and Kayla Valdes, Logan and Addison Schmidt, Carlos and Colin Rivera and Violet Stewart; brothers Lester (Mary) Sampson, of Granger, Ind., and Charles (Dora) Sampson, of Cassopolis.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 2002; and a grandson, Michael Valdes.

Celebration of Life services were celebrated Monday at Yazel & Clark Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jon DenHouter.  She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery on 10 a.m. Tuesday.
