Earl L. Sorsby, Sr., 86, of Cassopolis, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at his residence. He was born March 16, 1925, in Jackson, Miss., to Mabel Sorsby. He married Colyne Danzy on Nov. 25, 1954, in Cassopolis.

He served in the U.S. Army. Earl was a Life Member of the William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 and a member of the Honor Guard.

Earl is survived by his wife, Colyne Sorsby of Cassopolis; five daughters, Betty Hall of Memphis, Tenn., Jacqueline (Floyd) Foston, Jenice (Samuel) Cloud, both of Cassopolis, Jenny (Douglas) Davidson of Kalamazoo, and Janell (Frederick) Brown of Cassopolis; one son, Earl (Andrea) Sorsby, Jr. of Atlanta; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, and the first great-great-grandchild, expected in April; one sister, Gladys Minor of Chicago; and one brother, Henry (Regina) Ivory of Sacramento, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Willie Fizer.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Sorsby Home, 17797 Williamsville St., Cassopolis, MI 49031.  Military honors will be provided by the combined Honor Guard of William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 and Efton James American Legion Post 206, Cassopolis.
