Thankful for the riverfront

I would like to thank the City of Niles for our riverfront. What a good job they have done. It is a beautiful place and all free for us to enjoy.

Last night nine of us had a picnic in the shelter by the pier. We put cloths over the table and had space to display our buffet of food.

After sitting at the table and eating our food, we put our containers in our cars and picked up all of our trash. We had our lawn chairs and sat visiting while absorbing the luxury of the water and the scenery.

Regardless of age, we can all appreciate the riverfront. All in our group were 80 or older. We appreciate how well the grounds are maintained. If we all strive to do our part to keep things looking good, everyone will have a show place that will make our city proud.

Three days a week we come to the riverfront in the early morning to walk for our exercise. We enjoy the reflection of the trees on the water. We bring bread to feed the ducks, and some bring peanuts for the squirrels.

Not every town has such beauty for all who partake of it. I, for one, would just like to say “thank you” to the City of Niles for a job well done.
