Library misses Goodman

To the editor:

Last evening, Thursday, Aug. 2, the Dowagiac District Library Board accepted, with regret, the resignation of Jackie Goodman, longtime board member and recent chairperson.

Please allow me to use this forum to express how influential her service has been to the Dowagiac District Library. She was an active and positive force in the very formation of our district library, way back, nine years ago.

And then, once appointed as the representative from Silver Creek Township, she tirelessly worked for the benefit of library users from that very important part of our district.

To give your readers an idea of how far this library has come from a very small city library to a vibrant and essential community center would be a fair and accurate description of Jackie Goodman’s effectiveness and influence.  She has left the board to be able to spend more time with her family and to pursue her many interests outside the library sphere.

There is an opening for a board member to represent Silver Creek Township.

Potential applicants should send a letter of interest/vitae to the Dowagiac Union School Board to the attention of Debbie Heeter by Aug. 15.

Library board members are appointed, and this opening is available under the auspices of the DUS board, which will make the selection.
