Retiring Silver Creek Township clerk says health insurance benefits just a ‘rumor’

To the editor:

As I am retiring from my position of clerk of Silver Creek Township, I feel I am the appropriate person to respond to two things that have been brought to my awareness.

There is a “rumor” circulating in Silver Creek Township that the township board members and administrators are provided with a retirement program and fully paid health insurance.

This is untrue.

Silver Creek Township has no retirement program!

There is an available health insurance group that is fully paid by any employee wishing to join at fully paying the premium and any costs to the township as a payroll deduction.

There is also the “rumor” that the Silver Creek Township Board will cancel the contracts with the Sister Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

This is also untrue.

Both of these contracts run to 2015.

There has been no comment before the board to not continue them as agreed.

Rumors are dangerous!

If anyone wishes any information on township policy or any function, they are invited to call the Township Hall during regular business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon; or call anytime, (269) 424-3025, leave a message and it will be returned during the above office hours; or email us at silvercreek@sisterlakescable.com.

Everyone is invited to attend our board meetings that are the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall.

The current Silver Creek Township administration prides itself on openness, transparency and availability to respond to questions.
