An Edwardsburg man with a “grave” criminal history including manslaughter, escape from prison and robbery was sentenced to three years in prison for meth-related charges Friday in Cass County Circuit Court.
Ronald Myers, 49, thanked Judge Michael Dodge as he left the courtroom. Dodge could’ve sentenced Myers to between 6.5 and 10 years in prison according to guidelines.
Dodge said he deviated from the guidelines because Myers has been conviction-free since 1991.
Prosecutor Victor Fitz described Myers as a dangerous man with a “grave” criminal history and asked Dodge to sentence him within the guidelines.
“He says he is not a bad person, but actions speak louder than words and he’s done some very bad things,” Fitz said.
Myers said the manslaughter charge was an accident resulting from a fight where the victim fell on his nose.
“I am sorry for that,” Myers said.
Myers admitted he needs help kicking a meth addiction that began in 2009.
Police found meth and items used to make meth at his residence on Old Michigan 205 in Edwardsburg on Feb. 2.
Myers pleaded guilty to four meth-related charges in April, including felony operating and maintaining a meth lab.
He received credit for 156 days served.
