New Buffalo city clerk charged with embezzling

A six-month investigation by the Michigan State Police resulted in the arrest of New Buffalo City Clerk Sandra White for embezzlement from the City of New Buffalo.

White was arrested by state police detectives in Three Oaks Monday morning and is lodged at the Berrien County Jail.

White allegedly used her position as clerk to embezzle cash from the New Buffalo city beach parking revenue and New Buffalo boat ramp revenue from 2009 to 2010. She allegedly embezzled more than $90,000 from the city over the two-year period.

White was arrested on a felony warrant from the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office. She is charged with embezzlement over $50,000 but less than $100,000. The maximum sentence is 15 years in prison.
