Dowagiac has doubled its cash rebate for old, secondary refrigerators and freezers from $30 to $60, giving customers a quick and easy way to boost their home’s energy efficiency by saving as much as $150 a year on customer utility bills.
Typically kept in garages and basements, older refrigerators or freezers can use up to three times the amount of energy of newer models, a steep price for keeping a few beverages and leftovers chilled.
“We are extremely pleased to double the rebate for the program. Now is an ideal time to consider whether you really need that extra refrigerator.
“Not only will you instantly start saving money on your electric bill, you’ll also make a ‘green’ contribution to your neighborhood and gain some extra cash,” said Jim Bradford, public services director.
To schedule a pick-up of your refrigerator or freezer, call (877) 270-3519 or visit jacoinc.net.
Customers will receive a check for $60 within four to six weeks following the collection of the appliance. Refrigerators to be recycled must be in working order with an inside measurement of 10 cubic feet or more.
