Buchanan is close to approving its 2012-2013 budget.

But before publishing it, the city commission will hold a public hearing 7 p.m. April 9 at City Hall, 302 N. Redbud Trail.

Residents will be able to comment on the budget and the proposed property tax millage. The proposed rate remains at 17.1 mills per $1,000 of taxable value.

The $1.95 million budget stacks up like this:

• General government — $397,674

•Public safety — $1,013,066

• Public works — $403,433

• Recreation/other — $133,526

The complete budget can be reviewed at City Hall 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
