AUBURN HILLS — Chanc Ravish of Brandywine was defeated in the Division 4 130-pound championship match by New Lothrop’s Jacob Perrin Saturday night in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Finals.

Buchanan’s Gage Hutchison wrapped up an undefeated season (56-0) with a pin for the Division 3 215-pound state championship.

Perrin (52-3) edged Ravish (49-4) 5-3 in the title match at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ravish fell behind 5-1 early before battling back. An early penalty point he felt changed the outcome.

“It was kind of a silly penalty point, but it changed the whole match,” Ravish said. “I couldn’t cut him in the third period and go for a takedown because I was down two points instead of one.

“I’m not satisfied with the outcome, but this is something to be proud of. I am definitely going to work that much harder for next year. I’m going to come back here and take first next year.”
Brandywine coach Rex Pomranka is proud of his junior standout. He said he felt he wrestled extremely well throughout the tournament.

“It was a tough match,” he said. “He’s still second in the state, and we are proud of that. He’s only a junior and has a chance to come back next year. Those were two physical kids that were going at it. Today, the other kid was the better of the two.”

Pomranka was also proud of the performance of freshmen Victor Moranchel, who went 1-2 at the tournament. He noted the Bobcats are a team building for the future.

“We are up and coming,” he said. “We are going to build on this for next year. He (Ravish) has already said he was going to work harder and that’s what it takes to get our program to the next level. Chanc will have those other kids working harder, too.”

In reaching the title match, Ravish, a junior, pinned Luke Ragon of Dansville for his 99th career pin. In the quarter finals, he scored a major decision victory against Nick Barnhill of Jonesville, 14-2.

Ravish needed overtime to defeat Athens’ Patrick Waterstradt, 5-3.

Moranchel (28-21) was 1-2 in his first visit to The Palace.

Niles’ Donte Stevens finished eighth in Division 2 after a 5-3 loss to Joe Preston of Grand Rapids Northview.

Niles’ Brenden Meek (36-13) went 0-2 in his first trip to the finals, while Casey Burandt (33-14) and

Ryan Casey (40-9) were both 1-2. Fritzel Findeisen (44-7) was 0-2.

In Division 3, Jeff Mucha of Buchanan earned a seventh place finish with a 3-2 victory over Bruce Hubbard of Alma.

Edwardsburg’s Michael Kempton was 1-2 at Division 2 and finishes the year with a 27-6 mark.

In Division 4, Cassopolis’ Dominic Forbes was also 1-2 as he finishes with a 45-5 record.
