American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Dowagiac gets under way Tuesday as event volunteers and participants gather at the Moose Lodge, 54867 M-51 North, for a kick-off rally to launch fundraising efforts.
Although the Relay For Life of Dowagiac at Union High School July 21 is more than five months away, residents are invited to attend the kick-off celebration to learn more about how to become part of this overnight event that will pave the way to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Relay For Life is the Society’s signature event, dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer.
Teams of family, friends and co-workers camp overnight, taking turns walking the track.
During the event, participants and vistors will have a chance to celebrate the victory of area cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap, remember those lost to the disease during the poignant Luminaria Ceremony and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony that gives everyone a chance to proclaim his or her way of taking action against the disease.
