Sadie L. Hankins, 83, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Yazel and Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with the Rev. Michael Hefflin from Decatur Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Sadie was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Benton Harbor to Roy and Ruth (Wade) Hankins. She was raised in Dowagiac before moving in 1956 to Decatur, where she spent the remainder of her life. Sadie retired from Jessup Door Co. in Dowagiac in 1992 after 25 years of employment. She was a member of Decatur Church of God, and a former member of the Eagles, where she held various offices and positions. Sadie enjoyed playing bingo and the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sadie is survived by: her son, Michael (Kelly Hatfield) Hankins Sr. of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Henry Hodgman, Michael Jr., Timothy, Roy, Earl, Colley, Christina and Connie Hankins; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Katherine Campbell of Battle Creek; and her brother, Edward Hankins of Cassopolis. She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Edna Canniff and Viola Franklin; and her brother, Francis Gorham.
