Eleanor’s life began on Oct. 27, 1914, in Stevensville, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Taylor) Sullivan. 

She was a graduate of Western Michigan Institute with a bachelor’s degree in education. 

Eleanor was united in marriage to Jack S. Paul on Aug. 25, 1940, in Dowagiac.

She was an elementary school teacher in Dowagiac for most of her 26-year career.

Eleanor was a member of the Michigan Retired Teachers Association, a former member of Junior Arts and the seniors Omega Club. 

Her loving family includes: her daughters, Jill Paul of Louisville, Colo., and Judy O’Brien of Dowagiac; sons, Jack Paul of Walker, Minn., and Jim (Barbara) Paul of Okemos; three grandchildren, Rhinno (Brian) Mulligan of Rockford, Jane O’Brien of Chicago and Jack O. Paul of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Teague and Alanna Mulligan; and two special caregivers, Cheri Shepard and Ann Biek.

Eleanor passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2002, her sister Edith Wilt and brothers William and George Sullivan.

Her family will gather with friends to share memories on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel. 

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Southwestern Michigan College Foundation scholarship for Dowagiac Union School students or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
