Lawrence Burgoyne, 89 / March 15, 1921 — Aug. 25, 2010

On Aug. 25, 2010, Lawrence Clyde “Sparky” Burgoyne was called from this life to a greater world from his home in Buchanan after a lengthy illness.

Lawrence Clyde “Sparky” Burgoyne was born March 15, 1921, in Buchanan Township to Clyde Ezra & Laverne Ellen (Weaver) Burgoyne. He has honorable services with the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a veteran of Leyte Gulf on the USS St. Lo.

Sparky worked over the years at Electro-Voice & Clark Equipment Co. in Buchanan, and retired from Bendix Corp. in South Bend. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan, with the exception of a few years in Eclectic, Ala. shortly after his retirement.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His church membership was at Bethel Apostolic Tabernacle in Buchanan and he was very active in his church as a teacher, elder and was known as “Grandpa” Burgoyne to all.

He was preceded by his wife, Jessie Marie (Davis) Burgoyne; sons, Richard Lee Burgoyne and Timothy Allen Burgoyne; brother, George Burgoyne; and sisters, Betty Lolmaugh and Evelyn Krone.

Surviving are sons, Lawrence Kipp Burgoyne of Vienna, Va., Robert Clyde (Shelia) Burgoyne of Aynor, S.C., Charles Edward (Joan) Burgoyne of Buchanan, Larry (Sandy) Jones of Eclectic, Ala. and Randy Jones of Tallassee, Ala.; daughters, Deedrah Laverne (Lynn) Searfoss of Buchanan, Dawnah Ellen (Ed) Ellis of Elko, Ga. and Brenda (Bob) Buckland of Wetumpka, Ala; 10 grandsons and eight granddaughters; and eight great-grandsons and nine great-granddaughters.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 at Bethel Apostolic Tabernacle in Buchanan with Bishop Alfred Deeds, Jr. officiating.

Friends may call two hours before the service at the church.

Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan.
