Jerrold Kull, 80 / Dec. 29, 1929 — Aug. 20, 2010

Jerrold L. “Jerry” Kull, 80, of Dayflower Lane, Niles died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010 at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Wash. following a brief illness while on vacation.

He was born Dec. 29, 1929 in St. Joseph to Authur Gard Kull and Helen (Anderson) Kull. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and moved to Niles from Benton Harbor in 1953.

He retired in 1981 from National Standard. Jerrold was formerly employed at area grocery stores.

He was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church and was active in maintaining the church’s building and grounds.

Jerrold served in the United States Air Force during peacetime. He enjoyed bow hunting, hiking, swimming and going to his summer residence in Ludington, Mich. He was well-known for his car detailing and he enjoyed attending Auburn (Ind.) Auto Auctions.

On Oct. 21, 1951 he married Florence I. (Smith) Kull in Benton Harbor. She died June 17, 2008.

He married Shelton “Shelly” (Brace) Buchanan Kull on Aug. 29, 2009 at Morris Chapel Church. She survives.

He is also survived by his son, Gary L. (Cathy) Kull of Niles; daughter-in-law, Jenny A. (Mrs. Perry) Kull of Niles; Shelly’s daughter, Monica (Larry) Harman of Niles; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Ryan G. (Shalonda) Kull; Molli (Kelly) Young and Shawne (Fred) Clark; great-grandchildren, Cameron Young, Chloe Young, Skyler McKown, Emma Ayron Kull, Jared Reeves and Christine Reeves; and Shelly’s grandchildren, Danielle Johnson and Aubrey Boldt.

Jerrold was preceded in death by his son, Perry Gard Kull, who died June 25, 2002; grandson, Cpl. Ayron C. Kull, who died April 4, 2006; and sister, Donna Mantei, who died in 2008.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Christopher Kruchkow of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A flag presentation and “Taps” will follow services at the funeral home.
