Julia Juanita Duis / July 2, 1938 — Aug. 11, 2010

Julia Juanita Duis, “Granny”, the most courageous, giving, loving woman took her last earthly breath on Aug. 11, 2010 at 1:55 p.m.

She was preceded in death by Donna Lee Rose, her youngest sister, who made the journey before her on July 3, 2009. They are now hand in hand.

Her brother, David Lolmaugh and wife Gean, of Buchanan, her sister Clara and husband James Word of Lakeside, Mich. will miss her much.

Her children, Dennis and wife Laura Duis of Berrien Springs, James Duis of Kentucky, Michael (Sandra Darnell) Duis of Buchanan and daughters Darlene (Alan Pletcher) Hager of Buchanan and Pamma Jamma of Baroda will carry her precious love always.

Asked one day many years ago by her granddaughter what she wanted to be when she grew up, her reply was, “since I was a child all I wanted to see myself doing was to be a grandmother.” So she is surrounded by 24 grandchildren.

One, Nicole Ann Quint, also preceded her in death and took the journey before her in May 2007.  She has 57 great-grandchildren, one of which, her namesake, preceded her in death and journeyed before her at birth in November 2004. There are many, whom she loved and adopted her as their grandmother. There are many nieces and nephews who found comfort in her joy. She will be greatly missed.

She had an associates degree and a degree in cosmetology. She wore many hats and her last employment was through Berrien Springs Police Department as dispatch.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family of Julia Duis.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 21, 3 p.m. at Buchanan Township Fire Department, Main Street. Bring memories to share and dish to pass.
