Harold Hall was born in Detroit to John and Nettie (Stevens) Hall on Dec. 4, 1911. He died at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital on May 30, 2010.

He lived in Royal Oak, Mich., until moving, with his wife, in December 2008 to Forest Glen Assisted Living in Dowagiac to be closer to his daughter and family.

Harold was oldest of four children who preceded him in death.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in music education from the University of Miami in 1938.

He worked as a carpenter, furniture maker and also found work as a musician in WPA orchestras until joining the U.S. Army in 1943.

He served in the European Theater as a member of the Army Band.

After mustering out of the Army he joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1946, playing oboe and English horn until retiring in 1977.

He enjoyed traveling throughout America with the orchestra, camping with family and friends and creating wonderful objects out of wood and metal to amaze and amuse.

He is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Edna (Ramey) Hall; his daughter, Diane (Harold) Grabemeyer; his grandchildren, Aaron (Noreen) Grabemeyer and Mollie Grabemeyer; his great-grandchildren, Isaac and Connie Grabemeyer; and his sister-in-law, June Hall.

A celebration of a life well lived will be held in Royal Oak next week.

Visitation will be Monday June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at at the First Congregational Church, 1314 Northwood Blvd., Royal Oak, MI 48073, with service immediately following. Memorials suggested to the church.
