Olivia Freeman, 84, of Cass Street, Niles died at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles unexpectedly, but of natural causes.

She was born May 16, 1925 in Tuskegee, Ala. to William Taylor and Lucille Howard.

She graduated from high school in Alabama and moved in Niles in 1945.

She retired in 1979 after 30 years of service from Simplicity Pattern Co. in Niles. She was a member of Franklin A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the usher board.

She was also a member of Mariam Chapter 56, Order of the Eastern Star, and NAACP Unit 3148. She was a founding member of the Mother Vougette’s Social Club. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and the islands. Her greatest joy was caring for her family.

On Nov. 8, 1946 in Niles she married Odell Freeman, who survives.

She is also survived by her daughters, Sylvia J. Henry, of Niles and Tracee S. Freeman, of Niles; sons, Douglas O. Freeman Sr., of Elkton, Md. and Gregory V. Freeman, of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Temple, Douglas II, Timmy, Rick, Kevin and Ahmad; eight great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Ja nylah; brother, William J. Taylor Jr., of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Flemmie Hatten, of Marshall, Mich. and Susie Sturges, of Chicago; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Billups and brothers, Steve Taylor and Roy Taylor.

Funeral services will be at noon Monday, May 17, 2010 at Franklin A.M.E. Church, Niles with the Rev. Jared L. Graves Sr. of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

Friends may call beginning one hour prior to services at the church.
