Lyman Bybee, 70, of Niles passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010 surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.

Lyman was born Aug. 15, 1939 in Niles to Cletis W. and Edythe Mae (Clendenen) Bybee. Lyman was one of three children in the Bybee household.

Lyman wed the love of his life, Delores Wallace, on Dec. 5, 1959 at a ceremony in Buchanan. Together they had four wonderful children. Lyman worked for Indiana Michigan Power (AEP) for 24 years before retiring in 1993.

Lyman enjoyed many things, especially his wife, Delores, his children and grandchildren. He was a quick-witted man with a passion for golf, photography, Notre Dame football and his grandchildren; he was the patriarch and genealogist of the Bybee family. Lyman and Delores enjoyed many family trips after his retirement. Even during his illness, Lyman never lost his sense of humor and never let on that he was in pain.  Lyman is preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Bybee; and a brother-in-law, Malcolm Russell.

He is survived by his loving wife, Delores; children, Kimberly (Michael) Harris, of Niles, Cynthia Bybee, of Niles, Shane (Tonia) Bybee, of Zeeland, Mich.; seven grandchildren; siblings, Ann (Willis) Maxwell, of Niles, Lura Russell, of Decatur, Ala.; and several other loving family members.

Memorials may be made in Lyman’s name to Lakeland Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 2 at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with a time of visitation two hours prior. Sean Kidd will officiate.
