Mary Iona Hines, 88, of Adams Road, Niles died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center, Mich. following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 22, 1922 in Cambridge, Ohio to James Elmer Engle and Ethel Emma DeLyle. She lived in the Wyandotte, Mich. area until she moved to Niles in 1980.
As a young lady, she served as a domestic. She was a member of First Church of God in Niles. During World War II, she worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and had a booth at the Four Flags Apple Festival.
In 1965 in Wyandotte, Mich. she married John Fletcher Hines, who died July 1996.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Owen Engle, and two sisters, Martha Cramer and Elsie May Green.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Grabo; stepsons, Raymond Hines, Tom Hines, Phillip Hines and Dale Hines; a brother, Richard A. Engle of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with the Rev. Robert E. Jackson of First Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Mich.
